Lost Friends...Gained Respect

I looked my students in the eyes tody and told them, "I could kick you all out of class, and I would still get paid. I'm doing this for the money, not to make friends."

While many students laughed nervously, one squeked, "are you serious."

Yes, I am."

Silence.

In the distance, a dog barks.

The laughter stopped. The chatter stopped. But, the respect grew. They know where I draw my line in the sand, and won't dare cross it. They sure as hell better pay attention when I actually have to teach something, and now, with the help of some stinging comments, they will.

Hoooorrrraaaahhhh!!
