Road Trip To the Bay

Last night Angela, Dan and I drove to San Fran to watch three Improv groups perform at the The Buriel Clay Theater. You know the theatre don't you? Ya...well....we didn't either. We spent 30 minutes just driving around Frisco looking for Fulton street. Next time I Map quest he directions it'd be best if I bring along a map...for just such a wandering. Anyways, after doing the very touristy, "ask a stranger on the street, 'how do we get to fulton,'" we found the theatre. Hurrah!

The groups were fantastic. Or, at least two of them were. Revolving Madness, a Frisco based improv group of 20 somethings were great. The support they offered each other was inspiring. I was watching the whole time and thinking, "so that's what complete trust looks like!" Oh....and they also appreciated and used silence. They didn't fear not knowing where to go, they just went, and filled you in as a viewer when they got their. It was like they jumped over a chasm and then built a bridge of justifications for us to get to the same point. Make sense? It does for me. If you get a chance to go see Revolving Madness, do it, it's worth the trip (and that's coming from a guy who lives up in Sacramento).

The group....er...duo...that blew my mind was Razowsky & Clifford. Brillant. I was on th edge of my seat watching improv! They just, continually, topped themselves. Nothing fazed them. Their faith in their skill reallly put you at ease. They were so free with their bodies and at the same time so cerebral. It was like watching Kramer from Sienfed in an episode of Frasier. I haven't laughed that hard in so long...I was even doing that very gay hand slap I do when I laugh (some of you know what I'm talking about). If Revolving Madness is worth a drive from Sacramento to San Fran, it's worth going to LA to see R&C.

I'm so glad the last two groups were something worth talking about, because the first group, The Group, from LA just sputtered. They worked some long form, and while their chracters were interesting, and their commitment to the scene strong, I just wasn't feeling them. Maybe they were jsut having a slow night, because I spoke with a couple of them during intermission and they said they just arrived a few hours ago from LA, and he sounded exhausted.

But, anyways...it was a great show...and hanging out with Dn and Angela is always a fun time (except when they talk about interest rates and loans...in which case I start working on my facial expressions in the back seat).

NO NO, NOT pissed that you didn't CALL me to tell me you'd be in town yesterday. NO, not at all! JERKO!

Well, hope you had fun at least and enjoyed the frigid bay area SF temps!

I don't think your hand slapping is "gay"

I was lectured yesterday about how wrong it is to use "gay" as an adjective. So, let me replace "gay" with "ridiculous." And, sorry to all my gay readers who may have been offended (I'm making the wild assumption I have more then a handful of readers).

I am a jerko...I should have called. I'm coming downtown for another show next Thursday, ...would you be interested in braving the Frisco temps to join me in the city?

Hey PB- (Didn't we talk about the gay adjective? It's just a part of speech!)

Next Thursday would work great. What time? I work until 530ish, but I live pretty close to work. Let me know and hopefully I'll see you then.
