I Won The Lottery

Fellow substitute teachers will understand that a prep. period during 6th is like winning the lottery...a lottery that gives you free time! Heck yes it's awesome, you get to leave work at 1:30! A prep. period that front ends or back ends a lunch is also pretty cool, because you've been granted by the schedule gods an extended lunch (a brief 30 minutes becomes a lengthy hour and half ).

If you don't make the proper animal sacrifices in the morning after breakfast a displeased prep. god could punish you with a open 2nd, 3rd, the purgatory of preps. You languish for 50 minutes, little time to run an errand, yet to much time to do nothing. Ye Gods! Have you no mercy!

Now, we should discuss the truly terrible prep period, 1st. 6th period prep. is heavenly, 1st period prep. is hell. I'm getting a cold sweat and the shakes as we speak. You would to, or should! Think of it, arriving at the assigned school 30 minutes early to learn you'll start the day with a break. A break, might I add, that can be interrupted if the administration needs you to cover another class while they find a sub. You heard me right, you could face a day without a prep. I feel, having talked about such agony, I should knock on wood, find a four leaf clover and cling to a horseshoe and pray these lucky agents working in unison will grant me an 1st period prep. free week. That would be a more memorable score then an open 6th.
