The internet's abuzz over President Obama's Special Olympics comment, but I'm not interested in the political fallout. I'm looking at something else entirely...
Can I call the handicapped retarded? I thought that's legal... because there's a California Association for the Retarded (and I've donated to them, so don't crucify me...yet).
Can the retarted only use the word amongst themselves? What if I approach the local retarded gang, pass all their trials, and am accepted as one of them... can I use the word then? They're my retarded possee; my brothers, m' boys. I would hope, in that instance, when they say "sup retard," I could respond, "just livin' retard." Maybe that's to much to ask. Maybe the world isn't ready for that kind of equality.
