I was one of five children, and my parents would try anything to keep us amused on long car rides. The most successful distraction was during the Christmas season; "count the number of houses lit up with lights." We loved doing it, because we were good. Certain kids would take the left hand side of the street, and others the right hand side, and one of us would keep a running tally. We were a well organized machine, and sometimes our totals would number in the hundreds.

I still catch myself counting from time to time while driving.
