Live and Learn...But I Better Learn By Next Week if I want to Live

So last night we debuted at the Capitol Garage. Some of our scenes went over great, others begged for the death penalty, but that's typical improv.

I definitely learned a lot hosting the show. Brian reassured me all my failings were those he suffered his first year running Free Hooch, which was comforting. But, he also told me to fix them, which squashed that minor comfort. I'm glad he did let me go onstage and blow it; it's not something I want to repeat.

The crowd was decent. The problem, however, was much of the audience were those groupies we get to many of our performances. Now, don't get me wrong; I love me some groupies, but we need to figure out a way to attract new blood. Thank god the groupies show up, or our audience would resemble a ghost town, sans tumbleweeds.

Betsy and I canvassed CSUS, but we didn't seem to reap any rewards. We scattered, conservatively, 100 flyers about the campus, and bubkis, for now. I hope the students will eventually notice those flashy red flyers, realize there missing the best improv this side of...um...the Sacramento River, and scurry on down to the Capitol Garage.

There were some new people who mentioned they found the show on Napkin Night and Craigslist, and I shmoozed the hell out of them. Smile, nod, charm, and repeat. I enjoy charming people. It's like planting a happy memory of yourself in people's mind and then walking away. I'm the Johnny Apleseed of charm.
