First Day of Summer School

Making $35 an hour is easy, just teach summer school. I'm teaching summer school, I'm pulling down 35 hourly, and I'm blogging on the clock. Yes, I'm educating, and padding the bank account, and coming to you live Fair Oaks.

I know what you're thinking, "Paul! You're lazy! Teach these children!" And, that's not true, I'm teaching Driver's Education, and there's only so many stories about running out of gas (I run out of gas a lot. Whether it's in an intersection or a midnight road trip to Vegas, I run out of gas at the most inopportune times.) I can recount before they tire of me. I've decided the best tactic, and I consulted the students, is to allow them time to read the chapter, and answer the review questions on their own (is there a student on earth who enjoys reading as a group? No, they do not.). I respect my students right to succeed or fail. If they're floundering, and don't show an interest in learning, I'll let them fail. I think they appreciate my candor, my "the world always needs a burger flipper and ditch digger," speech. I let them know education is their assignment, not mine. I'll help them if they want to learn, but it isn't my responsibility to get them to "want" to learn.

I think that's an important lesson for kids: the world doesn't coddle you forever; it'll crush the ignorant who don't want to learn. That's what I'll teach these kids. Oh....and I'll teach them how to drive.

How did you get that position? Ok, I'm SOOO jealous of that! SOOO jealous! What school do you teach at?

In my opinion, if they're taking Drivers Ed in summer school because they failed it before, should they even be on the road...ever???

Some of these kids will definitely be endangering roadways.

I teach over at Del Campo...which is great....because I teach, primarily, Bella Vista, Del Campo and Casa Roble kids. Many of them are just little precocious go-getters who want to take the class now...before they have to....and free up their schedule for next year.
