I've never heard anyone say this, so let me be the first: everything does not happen for a reason, but we do provide reasons for everything that happens. There! I said it.
If you want, I'll elaborate, but that's how I feel. It's not a comforting thought like "everything happens for a reason," but I feel it's more accurate.
I don't blame people for feeling "everything happens for a reasons," because on the surface, it's very reassuring.
