I attended my first Improv class on Monday, and it was, I'm not exaggerating, the most fun I've ever had. Ever.
Improv is so liberating. I get to explore every notion that pops into my mind. The majority of time, with the majority of people, I disregard the majority of my ideas, because they're to "bizarre" and I'd get puzzled looks (and counseling sessions). In Improv, however, my honesty means success. I don't have to justify anything, because the group accepts everything, and adds to it. The "Yes, and..." method nurtures so much creativity.
I finally feel like I know what I'm good at. It's funny when I talk with people now, and they ask, "how was improv." I try to relay the emotion I feel, the excitement of creation and acceptance, but I always fall short. They say, "oh good, sounds like fun." Fun? Fun? It's more then fun, it's something’s seized me, and given me focus. There isn't anything that gives me such a rush from creating, while at the same time satisfaction of making others laugh.
I'm hooked.
